ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE
Islands of Adventure was originally a joint-venture between Universal Studios and Warner Bros. called Cartoon World. As a consultant to Universal's Planning and Development team Greg Damron produced all original program sizing and master planning for the park. As Cartoon World transitioned into Islands of Adventure Greg joined Universal's core team and produced the original master planning for the park. Eventually growing to one-man land teams Greg led master planning efforts and master plan design refinement.
ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE
As Vice President of Universal Studios Planning and Development Greg Damron worked with the core team and produced overall site master planning services working with Senior VP Robert Ward and an outside area development consultant. Greg integrated the evolving park master plan and entry facilities and worked hand in hand siting program elements including the resort hotels, waterways, a future water park and CityWalk concepts into an overall master plan.
LOTTE WORLD
Lotte World's indoor theme park in Seoul, South Korea, has been operating under protection from the elements for the past 25 years. Upon opening in 1989, Lotte World became the world’s largest indoor theme park. Lotte World set world records for the longest continual concrete pour and the largest steel order of any development of its kind.
LOTTE WORLD INDOOR PARK
Lotte World's indoor theme part consists of 14 acres of rides, shows and attractions withing a 9-acre footprint under one of the world's the largest skylights 100-feet above the main floor consisting of 5-acres of glass. Below Lotte World is a two-level shopping center and ice rink all beside a major shopping mall and department stores, a hotel tower, a Korean Folk Village Museum, a Sports Complex, and Theaters.
LOTTE WORLD - SEOUL KOREA
Lotte World's indoor theme park in Seoul, South Korea, has been operating under protection from the elements for the past 25 years. Upon opening in 1989, Lotte World became the world’s largest indoor theme park. It’s also one of the planet’s most popular parks, welcoming as much as 8 million visitors a year. Greg Damron master planned and led design of Lotte World for Battaglia Associates.
LOTTE - OUTDOOR PARK
Lotte World's Castle in the outdoor portion of the theme park was the icon for Lotte World. Working for Battaglia Associates Greg produced the initial design elevations and developed the site and facility planning. Working with an ex-Disney designer Howard Brummitt, Greg worked to bring the castle to meet expectation of a beautiful icon for the park.
LOTTE WORLD MONORAIL
Lotte World was the first permanent installation of an Intamin People Porter class mini-monorail. The three-car trains were designed and modified from Intamin's original people porter vehicles system by Greg Damron for Battaglia Associates and built by Intamin. Each vehicle has a capacity of 18 passengers and travel a leisurely winding route between Lotte World's large indoor amusement park and the outdoor island (pictured here).
FANTASIA LAGOON
Fantasia Lagoon is a relatively large and attractive water park built on the roof of The Mall Bangkae in Thailand, near Bangkok. The park is a favorite of Thai locals who have come and played for years. Fantasia Lagoon is a fun place for kids and young adults to spend a day with huge pools and large scale slides, in addition to a cartoon-themed town with attractive games and entertainment located beside and below the water park.
ICONSIAM - BANGKOK
IconSiam is the newest greatest multi-use development in the most prominent location along the Chao Phraya river across from the famous Oriental Hotel. IconSiam was designed by Norman Foster and is his first and last project in Thailand. Damron Design was engaged to produce the ground-level entry concept SookSiam conceived as a place that presents the cultural heritage of each of the four main geographic regions of Thailand.
ICONSIAM - BANGKOK
Bangkok's biggest new attraction, the long-awaited IconSiam is finally open to the public. Built at a cost of US$1.65 billion, this 750,000 square meter riverside complex is made up of retail, dining, entertainment and residential spaces. It's eight floors are filled with more than 100 dining options and 7,000 Thai and international brands, including Thailand's first Apple store. Other highlights include SookSiam, a huge, 16,000 square meter themed zone on the ground floor that aims to promote the arts, culture and foods of Thailand's 77 provinces and has its own small floating market.
ICONSIAM'S SOOKSIAM
The latest city of wonder brings together all aspects of unrivaled Thai wisdoms, including arts, culture, tradition, food and way of life from 77 provinces across the country. SookSiam has been conceived as a place that presents the cultural heritage of each of the four main geographic regions of Thailand, capturing their arts, handicrafts, performing arts and local wisdom. Visitors can immerse themselves in seven zones, namely Sook Sanae, Sook Sab, Sook Sanook, Sook Sangsan, Sook Sampan, Sook Suebsan and Sook Somwang.
ICONSIAM'S SOOKSIAM
Shaped and adorned by more than 200 Thai local artists from each of the four regions, SOOKSIAM is designed and created to become the new artisan hub where visitors can admire and learn the wisdom of local craftsmanship, shop for beautiful products, and enjoy a variety of cultures, performances and plays. All are creatively curated to entertain and educate visitors throughout the year.
SAPPHIRE FALLS HOTEL
Sapphire Falls was envisioned as a tropical Caribbean resort. Damron Design produced the original design and planning including an expansion to the existing Royal Pacific Convention Center. Greg and Jeff Damron worked on planning and programming while Greg and two of his designers developed the architectural facades. A new hire at Universal was mentored and integrated into the team producing CGI modeling and computer fly-throughs.
SAPPHIRE FALLS HOTEL
Working directly with Joe Harris of Harris Civil Engineers, Greg Damron developed conceptual planning and design that extended the Universal Resort waterways under existing roadways and into the proposed Sapphire Falls Resort site connecting guests by water taxi to the overall Universal attractions. This eliminated the need for bus access as a primary guest circulation with the resort attractions and amenities.
CAESARS MAGICAL EMPIRE
Caesars Magical Empire was a magic dinner theater at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The attraction was planned to be a two to four hour additive experience for the hotel guests and visitors. The attraction was fit into an area where it entered and exited through the sports book adding guest flow and attraction to the gaming facilities. Greg Damron brought in personal resources and provided conceptual planning and and design for Landmark Entertainment Group.
CAESAR'S MAGICAL EMPIRE
Caesars Magical Empire, trumpeted by a press release as “a perilous excursion through dark catacombs near rippling aqueducts,” opened in 1996, and was more an excursion through peril. Guests entered via the Chamber of Destiny, a faux elevator “descending” into catacombs; despite the illusion, the Magical Empire was not underground. Guests were escorted through designed passages to one of 20 dining rooms, where song, dance, comedy and magic were performed up close by personal “wizards.” Greg Damron did the original design and planning creation and brought in personal resources to help produce all final facade designs.
ISLANDS - PORT OF ENTRY
The Port of Entry at Universal's Islands of Adventure was the first land to be operationally planned and thematically developed. As the overall Orlando resort master planning was on-going conceptual design needed to move forward engaging the new park entry. Before any in-house teams were built the Port of Entry was conceived, planned and designed by Greg Damron and personal design resources. The designs were improved on and detailed out by Universal's Adrian Gordon and the Port of Entry team.
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS JAPAN
As Vice President at Universal, Greg Damron served as the Core Team's Interim Creative Director for Universal Studios Japan. Over a year's time period Greg produced dozens of park-wide master plans each time gaining more consensus within the senior management core team before final approval and team building where Greg oversaw specific land planning of each individual themed land making up Universal Studios Japan.
UNIVERSAL'S VOLCANO BAY
Greg Damron produced the first conceptual plans for Universal Orlando's water park 25 years ago. Since that time Greg had engaged in hotel resort expansion throughout the overall site always respecting and protecting allocated land for the possible water park site. In recent years Greg worked on Volcano Bay providing optional conceptual master plans and illustrated overall sections for the park incorporating the volcano, pools and slides and related facilities. The final design was refined and designed in-house by Universal Creative.
